OVERVIEW ----------
Matchless Energy (formerly Matchless Gas) is an independent energy company taking on the UK’s ‘Big Six’ energy providers. To support their rebrand, Goen Studios worked with them to create Project Braveheart, a bold, humorous social media campaign. Featuring Michael, the company’s founder, dressed as William Wallace and riding on horseback through a Scottish housing estate, the video has a tone of slapstick humour to make the message fun, memorable, and relatable to the audience.
PROJECT GOALS ---
The goal was to generate brand awareness, drive engagement, and position Matchless Energy as a fearless challenger in the energy market. The campaign needed to capture attention, reflect Michael’s personality, and make a lasting impression on the everyday Scottish homeowner.
OUR STRATEGY ----
We developed a cinematic yet comedic concept that balanced epic storytelling with humour. Pre-production included coordinating with an animal handler to ensure safety on set. Filming focused on dynamic visuals, grounding the campaign in a relatable setting while enhancing its theatrical elements. Post-production brought the vision to life with dramatic colour grading, playful editing, and a rousing soundtrack, optimised for social media engagement.
CLIENT RESULTS ---
The campaign generated strong social media engagement and boosted Matchless Energy’s brand recognition. Michael’s performance turned him into a local celebrity, making the company more recognisable and strengthening its connection with the community. The video’s unique, entertaining approach helped position Matchless Energy as a bold, disruptive force in the industry.
